What I've Been Reading Lately

Hey there, friends! I hope that your weekend was relaxing and fun. I spent Friday night shopping with my mom, and then on Saturday I hung out with my sister who helped me take some blog pictures (thanks, Al!) and we grabbed some sushi for lunch - yum! As I type up this post, it's Sunday morning and I have a few errands to run after some more blog-related work :)

It's been awhile since I've done a book review - I think the last one I did was in the summer! I'm going to make it a goal of mine to do more book reviews, which means I need to be more consistent with my reading. I've always LOVED reading so I really would love to make that a priority. When my sister and I were younger, my dad used to take us to Borders Bookstore on Friday nights and we'd all pick out books and sit down in the cafe. I would pick out probably 10-15 (kind of excessive, right? Haha) books and by the end of the night I'd convince my dad to buy me one of them - Junie B. Jones anyone?! Those were my favorite!

Anyways, let's get onto the book review! I hope that you'll be able to find a new book that you'll enjoy.

Talking As Fast As I Can by Lauren Graham

Okay, so if you’ve been following me, you know that I’m late to the Gilmore Girls party AKA I just started watching the show for the first time a few months back. I’m totally hooked now (my mom and I watch it together) and we’re currently on season 5. I got Lauren Graham’s new book for Christmas and I LOVED it. Can I just be best friends with Lauren Graham? I didn’t want it to end! And technically it hasn’t ended because I had to skip over some of the parts that talked about the later seasons, as well as the revival. If you love Lauren Graham/Gilmore Girls you will adore this book. The same witty humor we’re familiar with from Lorelai Gilmore comes through Lauren’s Grahams words and I laughed out loud more than once while reading it. BUT if you’re not a Gilmore Girls fan (which if you’re not I’m not sure if we can still be friends…just kidding, kind of) you probably won’t really appreciate this book/be able to follow what Lauren Graham is talking about.

Winter Storms by Elin Hilderbrand

I love, love, love books by Elin Hilderbrand. She's my go-to-gal when I want a solid book for a beach vacation. Winter Storms is the third book in the Winter Street trilogy, and I've loved following the characters in this storyline. If you're looking for a book to cozy up next to the fire with, this is it. It's set in Nantucket (like the rest of Elin's books) and most of the story surrounds Christmastime which I love! You'll fall in love with the dysfunctional Quinn family and won't want to put this book down. Super easy read! Click HERE for the first book, and click HERE for the second.

Everything We Keep by Kerry Lonsdale

Everything We Keep was the first book I've read by Kerry Lonsdale and I was not disappointed. This book will keep you guessing right up until the end! Aimee, the main character, is told that her supposedly deceased husband is alive, but she can't figure out why he her high school sweetheart wouldn't have tried to contact her if he truly is still living. I loved how this book was a good mix of friendship, love, and mystery. Another easy read that will keep you interested throughout the entire book!

When I'm Gone by Emily Bleeker

This was one of those books that I didn't want to end. I wanted to hold onto the characters for just a tiny bit longer to see what would happen to them next! When I'm Gone by Emily Bleeker is about family, loss, and love. The main character, Luke, has three kids and his wife recently passed away from cancer. After her funeral, he starts to receive letters from her, but he has no idea how. This book has strong characters that develop as the book goes on, and the storyline will keep you glued to the book. There were several occasions I stayed up way too late just because I needed to see what happened next!

I hope that you'll enjoy one (or all) of these books as much as I did! I'm always looking for book recommendations. Let me know what your current favorite book is in the comments!

Happy Reading!

Friday Favorites #2

Happy Friday, friends! I'm back for my weekly Friday Favorites link-up post. I hope that you all have a fun weekend ahead of you. I'll be hanging out with my three best friends tonight so my weekend will definitely be off to a good start! Let's get into what I've been loving this week...

1. Skyfit App

I discovered this app on Instagram a few weeks ago and decided to try it out this week for one of my cardio days. Here's the description the app store gives:

Skyfit: The only app to turn your phone into an on-demand fitness studio with all your favorite classes and music. That drive you feel to run, push or pedal harder in a class or when working with a personal trainer? Skyfit recreates that exact experience by synchronizing the voice of a trainer with a playlist of all the music you love, to deliver fun and motivating guided workouts straight your earbuds.

Skyfit has the following categories: Treadmill, Outdoor Running, Elliptical, Indoor Cycling, 5K Training Program, 10K Training Program, and Yoga. I tried out the Chill Vibes Jog in the outdoor running category this week and loved it! Having a trainer encourage me throughout the run definitely kept me going when I usually would have stopped, which is a huge plus! The app also categorizes the workouts into beginner, intermediate, and advanced by putting green, yellow, or red next to it - so don't feel intimidated, there's a level for everyone! Click here to download the app or search for it in your phone's app store. You can try it for free for 7 days by logging in and then choosing the free 7-day trial.

2. Rx Bars

These bars are the bomb.com - but seriously, they are! The ingredient list on Rx Bars are just about the best you can get. As you can see, the one I had below only has 3 egg whites, 14 peanuts, and 2 dates. I bought mine at Whole Foods a few weeks ago, but I might have to resort to buying them on Amazon because for the past two weeks Whole Foods hasn't had them *insert angry emoji face here*! Amazon carries several of their yummy flavors including the peanut butter flavor,  chocolate sea salt, coffee cacao, and they also have a sampler pack which might be nice to try!

3. BookBub

As you could tell from my Book Worm Post, I like to read! Books can get pretty expensive though, even when I buy the digital version on my Kindle. This is where BookBub comes in! BookBub will alert you via email to limited-time free & discounted ebooks that match your interests. It's completely free to join, you can read on any device (your Nook, Kindle, Android, etc.), and the books are yours to own! I've already downloaded a FREE book onto my Kindle. Click here to sign up and tell BookBub about your favorite genres and authors so they can tailor your daily email updates to your favorites!

4. Siggi's Yogurt

This is without a doubt my all-time favorite yogurt. Other yogurt brands can have up to 25 grams of sugar per serving, but Siggi's only has 9-11 grams per serving in all of their flavors - that's a huge win for Siggi's (and us)! Siggi's comes in a variety of delicious flavors like raspberry, orange and ginger, peach, pomegranate and passion fruit, mixed berries and acai, and strawberry, amongst others, I buy mine as Whole Foods, but according to Siggi's website you can also find them at places like Acme and Giant. I've been eating the vanilla flavor recently with some blueberries and granola sprinkled on top, which brings me to my last "Friday favorite" for this week...

5. Kind Cinnamon Oat Clusters w/ Flax Seeds

I picked up this granola at the grocery store this past week and I was not disappointed once I tried it with my yogurt (let's be honest, I was eating it out of the bag way before it made into the bowl with my yogurt, oops)! This granola has 5 super grains in it including oats, millet, quinoa, amaranth, and buckwheat making it the perfect snack after a workout. You can eat it plain, over yogurt like I do, or with milk or almond milk. This granola is an excellent source of fiber, low in sodium, and low glycemic (low glycemic diets help maintain blood sugar levels that are already within a normal range). All in all, this granola is a great pick! Just remember to not overdo it with the granola, as it is a higher calorie food.

That's it for my Friday Favorites this week! What are you guys loving this week? Let me know in the comments! Have a fun and safe weekend, friends :)
