Hello, hello, you lovely people! It's Wednesday which means we're halfway to the weekend, you've got this! It's been a rainy week here, and to be honest, I haven't been hating it. Sometimes rainy days are a good thing. It gives you a chance to slow down a little bit and an excuse to cozy up on the couch and watch one (ten) too many episodes of Parenthood (I'm definitely not talking about myself...).
I thought I'd check in today to talk about why I started my blog in case we have some new readers out there in cyberspace (hi, new readers)! If you did just start reading recently I want to say thank you and I'm so glad that you're here. It means so much to have people that truly enjoy reading my blog.
So, why did I start Joyfully Jenna?
I've been reading blogs for probably about seven or eight years at this point. I think my mom introduced me to the first one I started reading (and I still read it everyday) called Peanut Butter Fingers. I got hooked reading Julie's posts. I loved how it felt like I was getting an update about a friend's life (not creepy, right?) each morning, because the longer you read, the more you feel like you actually know the blogger. Julie's blog actually inspired a lot of Joyfully Jenna, as her blog focuses on the same kind of topics that I do. So, kudos to Julie for being one of my main inspirations for starting this blog!
Once I was reading Peanut Butter Fingers I actually started searching for more blogs to read. There's just something about starting my day off with reading my favorite bloggers' posts that I love! Now, I keep up with about six different bloggers consistently: Peanut Butter Fingers, Mix and Match Mama, Summer Wind, Olivia Rink, North Carolina Charm, and The Cake by Hannah. These blogs are mish-mosh of different topics - some talk about health and fitness, some are recipes, some just talk about day-to-day life, and some talk about fashion. I've been reading a few of these bloggers long enough to hear about their engagements, weddings, and pregnancies. Kind of crazy, right? But really cool in my opinion :)
So, through reading all of these blogs for a good amount of years, I just knew I wanted to start my own at some point. I loved the idea of having my own little corner of the internet to share my passions and connect with other people. I mean, connecting with people is a big part of why I pursued the degree that I did. For those of you that don't know, a Masters in Health Promotion prepares you for a position in an employee wellness type of setting. I also have my certificate in health coaching, which allows me to connect with clients on an individual level to help them with behavior change (think weight management, exercise, smoking cessation) to lead healthier lifestyles. So, what better way to be able to connect with a large audience than a blog? I also hoped that I would become someone's regular read just like the blogs I mentioned have become my morning reading routine for me! So, after graduating from my Masters program this past May it felt like the perfect time. I had just gone through a rigorous two years of school, and creative outlet for myself sounded pretty wonderful!
Alas, Joyfully Jenna was born.
I just decided to go for it in early July of this past summer. I took a few weeks to brainstorm what I wanted to name my blog and I asked my family and friends to try to come up with some ideas too. I knew I wanted it to be short and sweet, and I also really like the idea of alliteration. Nerdy, right? ;P
So, where did I actually come up with my name? Well, actually my sister's fiancé's Mom texted me one day with the idea, and I ran with it - thanks, Jill!
I'm no pro yet.
I've absolutely loved blogging thus far, and I hope to continue it for a very, very long time (foreva, foreva, eva?). I love sharing recipes, workouts, health information, and just a peak into my day-to-day life with you all. Now that I've been blogging for almost four months, I would really, really like to hear what you all love reading and what you may want to see more of, and even what you might want to see less of. I'm all ears!
I do plan on writing a blog post on my top tips for people who are thinking about starting their own blog. I'm only in the beginning stages of learning the ins and outs of the blogging world, but I have picked up some knowledge along the way that I think would be helpful to beginners. If you're someone who is thinking about starting a blog and would like to see a post on blogging tips for beginners, let me know in the comments!
Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! I hope that this gave new readers (and readers in general) a little bit of a background on why I created Joyfully Jenna, and I hope that you'll stick around for a long time :)
