Welcome to Joyfully Jenna, I'm so glad that you're here! As a recent graduate of the University of Delaware with a Masters of Science in Health Promotion and a certificate in Health Coaching, I want a place to share my passion for health, wellness, behavior change, and also a place to just document "life" - alas, Joyfully Jenna is born!
So, where did my passion for health/wellness start?
My interest in health and wellness began in high school when I was playing travel volleyball. I started to realize that what I ate reflected how I played during games and tournaments. I'm sure you've heard someone say something along the lines of, "the food you eat is the fuel for your body," and I experienced that firsthand.
Eating "clean" allowed me to perform better - I experienced a noticeable difference in my energy level, and to be honest, I just felt better. As far as exercise, once my volleyball days were over I kept up with a regular exercise routine (with a few lulls now and then) and eventually taught group exercise classes during my 2-year graduate program.
Let's get real...
Staying on track with eating healthy and exercising isn't easy for anyone, including me! Sometimes cupcakes are just calling your name to bake them, and ya just can't resist (like the ones I made above)! I mean, who doesn't love to indulge in ice cream, chocolate, or wine (the list of deliciousness could go on and on), and let's be honest, sometimes binge watching The Real Housewives of NYC seems a bit more appealing than going for a run. I've struggled with eating clean and consistently exercising just like everyone else, but along the way I've learned a thing or two.
I want to use Joyfully Jenna as an outlet to share my experiences and tips that I've discovered along my healthy journey with all of you. Along with posting (mostly) healthy recipes, I'll also be posting some of my workouts and exercise tips. However, it's important to note that I am not a registered dietitian* or certified personal trainer* (I will be working towards my PT certification through ACSM soon).
Like I said before, Joyfully Jenna will be a reflection of my experiences and opinions focusing on health and wellness, with a bit of lifestyle topics thrown in (for all my fashion and crafting gals out there). I hope that it will become a cozy corner of the Internet that you love to visit!
See you next time!
*It's very important to note that I'm not a registered dietitian or certified personal trainer, so the views that I express are from my own experience, and should NOT be taken as medical advice. Before trying ANY of my exercises please speak with a medical professional.
