Foodie Favorites + Life Happenings

Hey there, friends! It’s been awhile. Life has gotten pretty darn busy around here! Between work, one of my friend’s bachelorette’s party, planning for my sister’s bridal shower (and now planning her upcoming bachelorette), studying for my personal training cert, and just STUFF – something had to give. If you’re still reading this post today, THANK YOU for sticking with me. Joyfully Jenna is still up and running, and more posts on their way! I’ll have a post on my sister’s bridal shower coming up with lots of fun DIYs and planning tips (a little sneak at one the pictures from the shower below), one of my new go-to lunch recipes, and some more fun stuff. Stay tuned!

Today I thought I’d stop by with some of my current Foodie Favorites. Fun, right? I always love to read other blogger’s posts like this, so I hope you’ll enjoy this one! I’ve found some products over the past month or so that I really LOVE and I think you will too. Let’s get right into it!

1. Trader Joe's Everything But the Bagel Seasoning

This stuff has been EVERYWHERE! I think I’ve seen it show up on about 10 different foodie blogger’s Instagram stories. BUT man, this stuff is good. If you like everything bagels you’re going to love this stuff. My favorite way to use it is on my eggs in the morning for breakfast. So darn GOOD! Definitely grab one (or ten) of these on your next Trader Joe’s run.

2. REBBL's Dark Chocolate Protein Shake

So, I pass Whole Foods on the way home from my gym, which can be very dangerous and quite $$$$. A couple of weeks ago I decided to stop in after taking GRIT and Body Pump (I’ll have another post on these two classes soon – they’re my absolute current favorites!) and I was looking for something high in protein to refuel my muscles after the lengthy workout. I had seen the REBBL brand pop up here and there on different foodie accounts I follow, so I decided to give it a go. I chose the dark chocolate flavor and was more than pleasantly surprised. No chalky taste, just pure chocolatey goodness. With 16 grams of plant protein and the delicious taste…what more could a girl ask for?

3. Health Ade's Kombucha

Oh, Whole Foods. It’s just so dangerous, guys, I’m tellin’ ya! To be honest, I never really got super into kombucha. I really wanted to like it because of all of its’ health benefits, but I never found a flavor I loved…until I tried Health Ade’s pink lady flavor AND their ginger lemon flavor. Oh. My. GOODNESS. If you’ve tried kombucha before and weren’t a fan, I encourage you to grab one of these the next time you’re at Whole Foods. I could drink these all day long. BONUS: Whole Foods has been running a 2 for $6 deal pretty frequently. Be on the lookout!

4. Califa Farms Coffee Creamer

Last, but certainly NOT least. This coffee creamer is my new favorite, hands down. They have a few different flavors, and my go-to is the vanilla. I’ve found it at Whole Foods, Target, and my local Giant grocery store. If you’re a coffee lover that likes to add a little bit of creaminess and sweetness, this is for you!

Alright, pals! I’m off to do some studying, but I CAN’T believe I forgot to mention that my sister and future brother-in-law GOT A PUPPY a few weeks ago. So, I’ll leave you with a picture of Mac, my fur nephew. Enjoy!

Whitening Sensitive Teeth At Home!

Gooood morning, pals! How's it going? I'm so excited to share this blog post with you today! I collaborated with Smile Brilliant for this post and I can't say enough good things about this company and their products.

So, what is Smile Brilliant?

Smile Brilliant is an at home teeth whitening kit that literally brings the effectiveness of a whitening treatment you would get at your dentists' office to your HOME for a fraction of the price. It's pure magic.

base-catalyst-paste

Your kit will include everything you need to make impressions for your own custom-fitted teeth whitening trays (you make the impressions, send them back, and a week later Smile Brilliant has sent you your own custom whitening trays)! Pretty cool, right? You'll also have plenty of whitening gel and desensitizing gel to use!

Why did it work for me?

  1. Decalcifications: I've struggled with decalfications on my teeth for as long as I can remember - basically spots on my teeth are whiter than the other parts. So, I always really shied away from whitening kits because usually they'd just make those spots BRIGHT white and the rest of my teeth would stay the same color. Talk about embarrassing, right? No bueno. BUT this all changed with Smile Brilliant - this kit works for my teeth and now I'm more confident with my smile than ever!
  2. Sensitivity: Along with the decalcifications, my teeth are pretty sensitive. With Smile Brilliant's desensitizing gel I had VERY little sensitivity. Before even starting the whitening process I used the desensitizing gel for a few nights, which really seemed to help. After that, I aimed to whiten my teeth for 30-45 minutes 3-4 times per week, and used the desensitizing gel for about 15 minutes after each whitening session.
  3. Coffee stains: This kit couldn't have come at a better time - with starting my first real, big girl job, coffee has become a daily occurrence and I had the stains to prove it. I mean, just check out my before picture below!

My teeth have come a LONG way with Smile Brilliant's whitening system as they were pretty stained. I didn't even realize the stains I had until I took the picture of my teeth after using the whitening system - it's crazy! I'll definitely be continuing to use Smile Brilliant to whiten my smile even more with my sister's upcoming wedding, as well as one of my friends.

Thanks to Smile Brilliant for helping me smile fearlessly :D

YOU can smile fearlessly with Smile Brilliant too! Check out the GIVEAWAY and coupon code below :D

Life Lately & A Delicious Frittata Recipe

Happy Sunday, friends! How's it going? I took last week off from blogging because we had some birthday celebrations going on. My birthday was the 19th of April and we celebrated with my family last weekend so I just wanted to take some time to relax and enjoy. We also celebrated this cutie's 14th birthday...

Isn't Munchkin the cutest?! #crazydoglady

The weekend before my birthday I celebrated with a few of my girlfriends at a local winery called Va La. If you live in the Delaware/Philly area I definitely recommend checking this winery out! They're a very small vineyard and only make 4 wines each year, but man, they're GOOD! Their wine tasting is on the pricier side at $20 per person, but their pours are very generous. Each wine you taste they pair with a piece of delicious local cheese, and the tasting ends with a chocolate truffle. I mean, need I say more? My favorite wine was their Silk Red which is a dry rosato. Seriously, go check Va La out!

So, that's been life lately - along with work, exercising, and all of the normal good stuff :) Now, onto what I'll be eating this week for breakfast...

This frittata recipe from Pbfingers blog is a delicious, savory, and healthy breakfast that can be made on Sunday and heated up during the week for breakfast. I love my morning oatmeal, but I'm getting a little bored of it so I'm excited to change it up with this frittata. I think you'll love it too! Follow the recipe below and let me know what you think :)

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon EEVO
  • 1/2 sweet onion, diced
  • 1 small green pepper, diced
  • 2 large chicken sausage links, chopped
  • 2 large heaping handfuls of fresh spinach (about 4 cups)
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 egg whites (I used 3/4 cup egg whites from a carton)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions:

  1. Set oven to broil on high.
  2. Heat olive oil over medium heat in a large, oven-safe skillet. Sautee onion and green pepper until softened (about 3-5 minutes).
  3. As onion and pepper cook, combine eggs, egg whites, salt and pepper in a medium bowl, stirring to combine.
  4. Add the chicken to peppers and onion and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Add spinach and cook until wilted, about 1 minute.
  5. Add eggs to skillet and lightly stir. Allow eggs to set (do not stir!) until sides are firm and middle still appears slightly wet, about 4 to 5 minutes.
  6. Transfer pan to the oven and broil for 3 to 5 minutes, until top of frittata begins to brown slightly.
  7. Slice and serve!

I recommend keeping a paper towel on top of your frittata while storing in the fridge to keep moisture from accumulating. Bon appetit!

How to Make Easy Peel Hard Boiled Eggs

Hey there, friends! I'm stopping by on this fine Easter Sunday with a short post with some pretty handy tips. I don't know about you, but I LOVE deviled eggs on Easter. I also love having some hard boiled eggs on hand for snacks sometimes too! But you know what I DON'T love? When you're trying to peel the shell off of the eggs and they won't come off easily which means you end up tearing off half of the egg white. No bueno!

Well, this time around when I was about to boil some eggs I decided to try out the Pioneer Woman's way of boiling eggs. Anyone else watch way too many episodes on The Food Network?

Binge watching her shows totally paid off in this case because guess what?! The eggs were SO easy to peel and NOT ONE PIECE OF EGG WHITE CAME OFF. No, I'm not lying. Is it embarrassing that this made me extremely excited? No shame :)

So, since I think this is the best thing ever I obviously needed to share it with you all. So, if you hard boil eggs often and are sick of fighting with the shells when trying to peel them... read on!

Step 1:

Bring a medium pot of water to a boil and THEN add your eggs. Once your eggs are safely in the pot, lower to a simmer for 13 minutes.

Step 2:

Prepare an ice bath for the eggs while they're cooking. Just grab a big bowl, add a good amount of ice, and fill it with cold water.

Step 3:

Once the 13 minutes has ended, go ahead and put your eggs into the ice bath for five minutes.

Step 4:

Take your eggs out of the ice bath and crack them on the counter top and voila! The shells will come off in large pieces and you'll have tasty and PRETTY eggs. That matters, right? Right.

Alright, pals! I hope that this trick helps you out as much as it helped me. Do you have a different trick for getting your hard boiled eggs to peel easily? I would love to know! Let's chat in the comments below :)

Jamba Juice: How to Make Your Order Healthier

Hi there, friends! I'm back after a little blogging hiatus. If you're still following and reading my posts - thank you! Balancing work, working out, family and friends, studying for my personal training cert, managing Lola's diabetes, amongst other things has been kind of like a puzzle, and I haven't quite figured out how to fit everything it yet. I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

jamba-juice-smoothie

I'm back today with a post about Jamba Juice. Do you guys have a Jamba Juice near you? One just opened up by my house, which is pretty exciting since we don't have any smoothie or juice places near us! I had been to Jamba Juice before when traveling to visit my grandmother in Florida, so I'm pretty familiar with the menu and I thought I would share some tips with you. These tips can be used at any smoothie chain, even if it's not Jamba Juice. Let's get right into them!

1. Ask for water as your base.

This is my NUMBER ONE and MOST important tip! Jamba Juice uses juice from concentrate as the base of all of their smoothies, which means you're already starting out with a decent amount of sugar in that smoothie you're thinking is a healthy choice. So, my tip? Ask to have your smoothie base to be water, or even soy milk. I promise your smoothie will still be just as tasty, and you'll cut down on the sugar A LOT.

2. Take advantage of the protein and chia seed boosts.

When ordering your smoothie, take advantage of the boosts that Jamba Juice offers. The two that I would choose are the protein boost and the chia seed boost. Each serving of the whey or soy protein boost has 10g of protein, so I suggest asking for two boosts of whichever one you'd prefer (especially after a workout). I also would add a chia seed boost for an extra dose of fiber and omega-3s. Yay for boosts!

3. Take that wheatgrass shot.

Yes, the scary and very green wheatgrass shot. Take it! That small shot is extremely mighty and will help you quickly meet all of your vitamin needs for the day AND give you a quick burst of energy.

4. Stay away from the not-so-healthy smoothies.

If a smoothie has the word chocolate in its' name, it's probably not so healthy. Their Chocolate Moo'd smoothie comes in at 570 calories and 103 grams of sugar in the original size! For your comparison, Berry UpBEET clocks in at 230 calories with 38 grams of sugar - a huge difference! My point - if it seems not-so-healthy, you're probably right.

Alright, pals! I hope that these tips will help you the next time you find yourself in a place like Jamba Juice. Do you have any guidelines that you like to follow when ordering at Jamba Juice? Let's chat in the comments below!
