Whitening Sensitive Teeth At Home!

Gooood morning, pals! How's it going? I'm so excited to share this blog post with you today! I collaborated with Smile Brilliant for this post and I can't say enough good things about this company and their products.

So, what is Smile Brilliant?

Smile Brilliant is an at home teeth whitening kit that literally brings the effectiveness of a whitening treatment you would get at your dentists' office to your HOME for a fraction of the price. It's pure magic.

Your kit will include everything you need to make impressions for your own custom-fitted teeth whitening trays (you make the impressions, send them back, and a week later Smile Brilliant has sent you your own custom whitening trays)! Pretty cool, right? You'll also have plenty of whitening gel and desensitizing gel to use!

Why did it work for me?

  1. Decalcifications: I've struggled with decalfications on my teeth for as long as I can remember - basically spots on my teeth are whiter than the other parts. So, I always really shied away from whitening kits because usually they'd just make those spots BRIGHT white and the rest of my teeth would stay the same color. Talk about embarrassing, right? No bueno. BUT this all changed with Smile Brilliant - this kit works for my teeth and now I'm more confident with my smile than ever!
  2. Sensitivity: Along with the decalcifications, my teeth are pretty sensitive. With Smile Brilliant's desensitizing gel I had VERY little sensitivity. Before even starting the whitening process I used the desensitizing gel for a few nights, which really seemed to help. After that, I aimed to whiten my teeth for 30-45 minutes 3-4 times per week, and used the desensitizing gel for about 15 minutes after each whitening session.
  3. Coffee stains: This kit couldn't have come at a better time - with starting my first real, big girl job, coffee has become a daily occurrence and I had the stains to prove it. I mean, just check out my before picture below!

My teeth have come a LONG way with Smile Brilliant's whitening system as they were pretty stained. I didn't even realize the stains I had until I took the picture of my teeth after using the whitening system - it's crazy! I'll definitely be continuing to use Smile Brilliant to whiten my smile even more with my sister's upcoming wedding, as well as one of my friends.

Thanks to Smile Brilliant for helping me smile fearlessly :D

Jamba Juice: How to Make Your Order Healthier

Hi there, friends! I'm back after a little blogging hiatus. If you're still following and reading my posts - thank you! Balancing work, working out, family and friends, studying for my personal training cert, managing Lola's diabetes, amongst other things has been kind of like a puzzle, and I haven't quite figured out how to fit everything it yet. I'm getting there, slowly but surely.

jamba-juice-smoothie

I'm back today with a post about Jamba Juice. Do you guys have a Jamba Juice near you? One just opened up by my house, which is pretty exciting since we don't have any smoothie or juice places near us! I had been to Jamba Juice before when traveling to visit my grandmother in Florida, so I'm pretty familiar with the menu and I thought I would share some tips with you. These tips can be used at any smoothie chain, even if it's not Jamba Juice. Let's get right into them!

1. Ask for water as your base.

This is my NUMBER ONE and MOST important tip! Jamba Juice uses juice from concentrate as the base of all of their smoothies, which means you're already starting out with a decent amount of sugar in that smoothie you're thinking is a healthy choice. So, my tip? Ask to have your smoothie base to be water, or even soy milk. I promise your smoothie will still be just as tasty, and you'll cut down on the sugar A LOT.

2. Take advantage of the protein and chia seed boosts.

When ordering your smoothie, take advantage of the boosts that Jamba Juice offers. The two that I would choose are the protein boost and the chia seed boost. Each serving of the whey or soy protein boost has 10g of protein, so I suggest asking for two boosts of whichever one you'd prefer (especially after a workout). I also would add a chia seed boost for an extra dose of fiber and omega-3s. Yay for boosts!

3. Take that wheatgrass shot.

Yes, the scary and very green wheatgrass shot. Take it! That small shot is extremely mighty and will help you quickly meet all of your vitamin needs for the day AND give you a quick burst of energy.

4. Stay away from the not-so-healthy smoothies.

If a smoothie has the word chocolate in its' name, it's probably not so healthy. Their Chocolate Moo'd smoothie comes in at 570 calories and 103 grams of sugar in the original size! For your comparison, Berry UpBEET clocks in at 230 calories with 38 grams of sugar - a huge difference! My point - if it seems not-so-healthy, you're probably right.

Alright, pals! I hope that these tips will help you the next time you find yourself in a place like Jamba Juice. Do you have any guidelines that you like to follow when ordering at Jamba Juice? Let's chat in the comments below!

7 Things You Can Always Find in My Fridge

Hey there, friends! How's it going? I hope you're having a relaxing and fun weekend. I've been playing catch up this weekend on a lot of things on my to-do list that I've been putting off (oops) so it's been a productive one! Later today my sister, my mom, and I are heading to a local winery that's having a sampling event AKA all of the wine and cheese so the weekend will definitely be ending on a high note!

I wanted to stop by today and share with you all five things that you can almost always find in my fridge. So, let's just jump right into it!

7-things-in-fridge

1. Spinach or Spring Mix

I almost always have a bag of spinach or a bag of spring mix in the fridge. Spinach can be thrown into a side salad for dinner, the base of my salad for work lunches, or it can be thrown into a smoothie! A lot of times I'll buy a bag of frozen chopped spinach to keep for smoothies and then get a bag of spring mix for salads! Such an easy way to add some greens into your daily eats :)

2. Vanilla Soy Milk

A splash of vanilla soy milk is the perfect addition to my morning coffee! I love the creaminess it adds to my cup, and it adds the perfect amount of sweetness. I always have at least a small carton of this in the fridge!

3. Lemons

You can almost always find a lemon rolling around the produce drawer in the fridge at our house! I love adding lemon slices to my water, especially in the summer. It makes water a little less boring to drink ;P Lemons are also great to add to chicken or fish - just a little bit of lemon juice, salt, pepper, and EEVO and you're good to go!

4. Eggs

I always keep some eggs on hand each week in the fridge - they're an easy and quick week night dinner, a great snack when hard boiled, and of course nice to use for breakfast on the weekend! Try making a simple egg scramble one night this week. Just throw in some spinach, tomatoes, onions (and whatever else you have on hand) and you'll have a quick and nutritious dinner in no time!

5. Tessemae's Dressing

I talked about Tessemae's dressing last week, but I absolutely love having a bottle of this on hand at all times. I not only use it as a salad dressing for lunches during the week, but I'll also use it for dinners too! I'll get some chicken breasts and throw them into a large ziploc baggie, pour some Tessemae dressing over them, and let them sit in the fridge for the day. Voila! Easy and tasty chicken, whether you want to grill or bake it :)

6. Carrots

Carrots are a great snack to throw into your lunch or munch on throughout the day at home with some hummus AND easy and delicious for roasting in the oven as a side dish. If you haven't tried roasting carrots yet, do yourself a favor this week and give it a go!

7. Bread

I usually stick my bread into the freezer to ensure it won't go bad, and I try to always have a loaf waiting in there for me. Sometimes if I run out of salad mix during the week, a quick sandwich will do the trick for my work lunch the next day! I'll also sometimes quickly fry an egg to top a slice of toast with - easy, healthy, and filling lunch.

Alright, friends, that's it - seven things you can almost always find in my fridge! What ingredients/foods do you always have on hand? Let me know in the comments below!

My Favorite Store-Bought Salad Dressing

Happy Sunday, friends! Doesn't the weekend just seem to pass by in a flash? I feel like it was just Friday about five minutes ago! Even though it seemed to go by quickly, I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Mine was a good mix of having plans and relaxing - Friday night I headed out with a few of my friend's to celebrate one of my best galpal's birthdays, Saturday I went over to my sister's house for a bit, and today I just did some laundry and headed back over to my sister and brother-in-law's house to have them help me study for my personal training cert!

Anyways, the main event of this post is to tell you guys about my absolute FAVORITE store bought salad dressing. As I was eating my salad at work this week I realized I hadn't shared this salad dressing with you all and immediately put it on my list for the post this week! Drum roll please ;P

tessemae-salad-dressing

My all-time favorite salad dressing is this homemade recipe I blogged about HERE, but when a gal's busy a store bought version is much easier, and that's where Tessamae's dressings come in.

The story of how Tessamae's dressing came about goes something like this...

"As the mother of three athletic boys, Tesse had to figure out a way to get them to eat their veggies while staying healthy. Because serving a dressing full of artificial ingredients was not an option, she created and perfected her own all-natural recipe. When her oldest son, Greg, realized how great it was, he said, “Mom, let’s go into business together and make this for the world!” As Tessemae's All Natural grows its product line around the globe, the commitment to healthy eating and healthy living remains the core of the company's mission."

Pretty crazy, huh? Just a mom that was making salad dressing for her family's dinners and now it's their family's business, and a dang good one, too! So, what do I like about these dressings? First of all, they're all tasty, honestly I haven't had one that I don't like. Second of all, there's NO artificial ingredients or any of the typical junk in other salad dressings you'd buy. For example, her Caesar dressing has the following ingredients:
Organic EEVO, organic lemon juice, organic apple cider vinegar, organic mustard, organic spices, organic coconut aminos, sea salt, organic balsamic vinegar, organic ginger, organic dates, organic onion powder, and organic garlic powder.

I mean, compare those ingredients to a typical Caesar dressing you get off the shelf at the grocery store... you can't beat Tessamae's. The ingredients in Tessamae's dressings are REAL ingredients that we can recognize and pronounce, AND they're DELICIOUS!

My favorite dressings are the Lemon Garlic, Balsamic, and the Caesar! All of Tessamae's dressings are also awesome to use as a marinade for chicken or other meats and fish. So, if you're looking for a healthy salad dressing to spice up your lunch or dinner, grab a bottle of Tessamae's the next time you're at the grocery store! I find mine at Whole Foods, but I'm sure they're in other stores as well.

Have you tried Tessamae's dressing before? Let me know in the comments below!

The Benefits of Soy Candles & GIVEAWAY!

Hello there, friends! I hope the work week is treating you well so far! I'm still adjusting to the schedule of my new job, and I'm planning to do a blog post soon to fill you in on what my new job consists of. So, keep checking back here if you're curious!

Today I wanted to chat with you about the benefits of burning soy candles. Growing up, we always had Yankee Candles in our house. Anyone else grow up with those? They always smelled so good, of course, but it wasn't until the past few years that I became more conscious of what the candles we were buying are made out of. Yankee candles, and many others, are made out of paraffin wax, which is a refined gasoline by-product. Do you ever notice that when you burn yankee candles you get that ring of black soot at the top? Candles made out of paraffin wax tend to produce soot, and are less "clean" to burn.

soy-candle

Soy wax candles are very clean-burning candles, and do not produce any soot. Some other benefits of soy wax candles include:

  1. Soy wax candles don't contain any toxins, carcinogens, or pollutants which means they're less likely to trigger allergies.
  2. Soy candles generally burn longer than paraffin candles.
  3. Soy wax is 100% biodegradable.
  4. Soy wax releases fragrance more easily than paraffin candles, which means your house will smell even better! It's the simple things, right? :)

Recently, I found an Etsy store, Goldenday Candles, that makes all natural soy wax candles. Jasmin, the store owner, uses soy wax and cotton (for the wick) that's grown by US farmers, and is very passionate about delivering natural and safe-for-your-health candles. Oh, and did I mention that her 8oz candles burn for 45 hours?! Yes, 45 hours, and the scent is strong enough to make your house or apartment smell lovely without being too overpowering.

Jasmin was generous enough to send me one of her candles to try out, and I've been very impressed so far! The candle burns very nicely, doesn't leave any soot residue, and has an amazing smell (she sent me the Cinnamon and Vanilla scent). Her candles cost around $16.50, and in my opinion are worth every penny. You know you're getting a quality candle that's made with natural ingredients from US farmers, AND it will burn for a long, long time.

Jasmin was also sweet enough to send me another candle to giveaway to one of YOU! She sent the Lavender Relaxation scent for the giveaway and oh my goodness it smells heavenly! It's the perfect candle to unwind after a long day at work and I just know you guys will love it. So, how can you guys enter?! Head on over to my Instagram (username is joyfullyjenna) and find the picture of the candle. Make sure to follow the giveaway directions to enter! I can't wait for one of you to receive this candle!

*Goldenday Candles sent me a candle in exchange for an honest review. All opinions in this post are my own, and I would never support a product I didn't believe in.
